Course Description

Train to prevent fires, recognize hazards, and act fast with calm, coordinated responses. This course builds core knowledge and hands‑on skills so CBRF caregivers can protect residents, coworkers, and facilities—and turn code‑compliant knowledge into everyday practice. Core Fire Concepts: • Fire science: heat, fuel, oxygen, ignition sources. • Common facility risks: cooking, smoking, oxygen use, overloaded circuits, space heaters, clutter. • Room‑by‑room hazard checks that actually reduce incidents. Response Framework: • RACE sequence: Rescue, Alarm, Contain, Extinguish/Evacuate—when and how to apply. • PASS extinguisher technique with practice; when not to fight a fire; life‑safety priorities first. • Alarm recognition, pull‑station use, and immediate communication to 911 and on‑site leadership. Evacuation & Life Safety: • Horizontal and vertical movement; two‑exit awareness and wayfinding. • Door control, smoke behavior, and closing doors to slow fire spread. • Accountability procedures and roll‑calls during and after evacuation. • Adaptations for residents with mobility, visual, hearing, or cognitive needs. Equipment & Building Systems: • Extinguisher classes A/B/C/K and selecting the right tool. • Sprinkler basics and smoke‑barrier concepts. • Understanding alarm panels, annunciators, and staff roles during alarms. Prevention & Daily Routines: • Clear egress routes and uncluttered hallways. • Safe cooking set‑ups and appliance checks. • Oxygen signage, storage, and no‑smoking controls. • Extension‑cord rules and electrical load awareness. • Hot‑work/vendor oversight and shift‑to‑shift hazard briefings. Documentation & Compliance: • Drill records, incident reports, and after‑action reviews. • Shift handoffs and communication that keep teams aligned. • Practical checklists for daily, weekly, and monthly safety tasks. Learning Experience: Expect realistic scenarios, quick checklists, and coached repetitions to build confident muscle memory. Who Should Attend: • CBRF caregivers, med passers, and supervisors. • New hires and staff needing refresher training or compliance renewal. Outcomes: • Spot hazards early and reduce incident risk. • Respond decisively using RACE and PASS with clear role execution. • Protect residents and coworkers and restore operations safely. Materials & Access • You will gain access to Canvas and you are responsible for downloading and printing the required course materials from Canvas before class.
