CBRF Caregiver- First Aid/Choking/ CPR
From panic to protocol—CBRF lifesaving skills.
Course Description
Build confident, code-aligned response skills for medical emergencies in residential care. This course trains CBRF caregivers to spot problems early, call for help, give high-quality CPR, relieve choking, use an AED, and deliver role-appropriate first aid—while keeping residents and staff safe. Key Competencies • Scene size-up and universal precautions (gloves, eye protection, hand hygiene). • Assessment: responsiveness, breathing, severe bleeding, and when to check a pulse. • Activate EMS/911 and alert on-site leadership; clear, concise hand-offs. • Adult/Child CPR: 100–120/min, depth ~2 in (5 cm) for adults, full recoil, minimal pauses. • Infant CPR basics and 2-rescuer coordination (as required by role). • AED: power on, pad placement, analysis, clear for shock, resume compressions. • Choking relief: abdominal thrusts (adult/child); back slaps + chest thrusts (infant). • First aid priorities: bleeding, shock, burns, fractures/sprains, diabetic emergencies, seizures, heat/cold illness. • Airway support: recovery position; rescue breaths with mask; BVM if policy allows. CBRF-Specific Adaptations • Working with residents with mobility, visual, hearing, or cognitive needs. • Oxygen safety and recognition of respiratory distress and hypoxia. • Medication awareness: when to escalate for suspected overdose or anaphylaxis (Epi per policy). • Scene control: bystander management, privacy, and post-event reassurance. Practical Skills & Scenarios • Manikin practice: compressions, ventilations with mask, and AED drills. • Choking simulations for adult/child/infant with correct body mechanics. • First aid stations: bleeding control, wound care, splinting, burn cooling, shock positioning. Training Format • In-person or blended (online theory + in-person CPR). • Digital completion cards issued upon successful demonstration. • Certificates meet employer and regulator expectations. • Practical take-home checklists. Who Should Attend • CBRF caregivers, med passers, supervisors, and new hires. • Staff seeking renewal or a skills refresh to meet policy requirements. Outcomes • Early recognition, decisive action, and calm leadership during emergencies. • Correct CPR, choking relief, and AED use for adult/child/infant. • Consistent first aid aligned with facility policy and resident safety.
