Course Description

CBRF Caregiver Training at Trinity Allied Healthcareer Academy equips new and seasoned caregivers with practical skills, sound judgment, and calm confidence to keep residents safe, comfortable, and respected—every shift. Built on Wisconsin DHS-approved content and real-world scenarios, the program blends clear instruction, hands-on practice, and competency checks so graduates are job-ready on day one and resilient when the unexpected happens. The Four Pillars of CBRF Care • Standard Precautions: Infection prevention that works in real life—hand hygiene that sticks, PPE that fits, cleaning that counts, and exposure response without panic. • Fire Safety: Prevention habits, hazard recognition, alarm systems, extinguisher basics (PASS), evacuation routes, resident movement, and post-incident accountability. • First Aid & Choking with CPR/AED: Calm assessments, bleeding control, shock care, choking relief for all ages, and high-quality CPR/AED skills that stand up under pressure. • Medication Administration & Management: The rights of med pass, labeling, storage, MAR documentation, PRN protocols, error prevention, reporting, and teamwork with licensed providers. How We Teach Step-by-step demonstrations, guided drills, and simulation labs that mirror CBRF realities—night-shift short-staffing, wandering risks, polypharmacy, oxygen use, and behavioral-health overlays. You’ll practice communication that de-escalates, documentation that protects residents and staff, and teamwork that keeps the home running smoothly. Throughout, we reinforce resident rights and dignity, cultural humility, trauma-sensitive care, and privacy. Outcomes • Recognize risks early and follow protocol without freezing. • Adapt when conditions change and escalate care appropriately. • Build muscle memory for critical tasks and a checklist mindset for safety. • Communicate with a professional voice that earns the trust of residents, families, and supervisors. Training Format Efficient, focused sessions to fit busy schedules: online learning plus in-person skills as required. Small groups, clear rubrics, and competency checkoffs ensure consistency across teams. Who Should Enroll New hires, upskilling staff, and providers standardizing quality across homes. Materials & Access • You will gain access to Canvas and are responsible for printing the required four manuals from Canvas before class.
